NSW SES Media Release 2-2-2022

Below is an SES Media Release for the wet weather expected to arrive here Thursday and Friday.

75% CHANCE OF FLOODING FOR THE NORTHERN RIVERS and MID NORTH COAST.

The BOM is forecasting widespread severe storms are likely from this afternoon (02 Feb 2022) in the north east of NSW, contracting to the Northern Rivers from early Thursday morning into the afternoon. It’s difficult to pinpoint exact localities that may be impacted by these isolated severe storms.

The main threat with these severe storms, if it impacts your locality, is short bursts of heavy to intense rainfall that could lead to flash-flooding and damaging wind gusts. This could mean that roads get cut and isolate communities. Landslips and trees blocking roads are also a possibility.

While the BOM has not yet issued any severe weather warnings or flood watches for any of Tweed Shire areas (as of the time this email was sent), they are keeping a close eye on the Northern Rivers area. Check with the BOM website for any BOM warnings that may get issued this afternoon.

Apologies if this message appears very non-specific, but it’s the best info we currently have. As we’ve seen over the last couple of months, if we do get heavy rainfall, rivers and creeks rise quickly with little warning.

Let your communities know to keep an eye on the weather and be prepared.

Stay safe and dry!
